Human Resources Assessment
Know where your HR stands—and what to do next.
As your organization grows, HR can become complicated quickly. Policies that worked when you had ten employees may not work with thirty. Hiring becomes more frequent. Managers need more support. Compliance requirements change. And processes that developed informally over time may create inconsistencies or risk you don’t even know exists.
The MBR Human Resources Assessment gives you a comprehensive, outside look at your HR practices so you can understand what’s working, what needs attention, and where to focus next.
This isn’t a generic checklist or automated report. You’ll meet with an experienced MBR HR consultant who will learn about your organization, your people, your current practices, and your goals. We’ll evaluate your HR function and then translate what we learn into practical recommendations designed specifically for your business.
What We’ll Assess
Our assessment looks across the employee lifecycle and the HR systems that support it, including:
- HR Administration & Documentation — HR responsibilities, personnel files, recordkeeping, HR systems, payroll processes and administrative practices
- Policies & Compliance — employee handbook, employment practices, required documentation, wage and hour considerations, leave practices, safety and other areas of potential HR risk
- Recruiting & Hiring — job descriptions, recruiting processes, interviewing, candidate selection, background checks and offer practices
- Onboarding & Offboarding — how employees enter and leave the organization, including orientation, documentation, communication and consistency
- Compensation & Benefits — pay practices, salary structures, benefits, incentives and how total rewards are communicated
- Performance Management — goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, corrective action and manager accountability
- Training & Development — new-hire training, compliance training, manager development and opportunities to build employee capabilities
- Employee Relations & Engagement — communication, recognition, feedback, retention, conflict resolution and employee concerns
- Culture & Leadership — your organization’s values, leadership approach and how your HR practices support the culture you want to create
What to Expect
1. HR Assessment Meeting
We’ll schedule a consultation with key members of your leadership team. Using MBR’s comprehensive HR assessment, we’ll talk through how HR currently operates, what’s working well, where you’re experiencing challenges, and what you want HR to help your organization accomplish.
This is a conversation—not an audit. Our goal is to understand your business before we make recommendations.
2. MBR Review & Analysis
Following the meeting, our HR professionals will evaluate what we learned, review relevant information and documentation, and identify strengths, gaps, potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
We’ll also consider where your organization currently falls on the HR continuum—from foundational HR and compliance through operational and strategic HR—so recommendations are appropriate for where your business is today.
3. Customized HR Assessment & Recommendations
We’ll prepare a customized assessment outlining our findings and recommendations. Rather than simply identifying everything that could be improved, we’ll help you understand what matters most and why.
4. Results Presentation
We’ll meet with you again to walk through the assessment, answer questions, and discuss priorities. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your HR function and a practical roadmap for moving forward.
What You’ll Walk Away With
At the end of the assessment, you’ll have a clearer picture of:
- Where your HR practices are strong
- Where there may be compliance or organizational risk
- Where inconsistent or informal processes may be creating problems
- Which HR systems and practices should be strengthened
- What should be addressed first versus what can wait
- Opportunities to better support your employees, managers and organizational goals
And most importantly, you’ll know what to do next.
What Happens After the Assessment?
There is no requirement to engage MBR for additional services. You may choose to take the recommendations and implement them internally, engage MBR for a specific HR project, or have MBR provide ongoing HR support through a retained partnership. When ongoing support makes sense, our recommendations can be translated into a defined scope of work based on your organization’s priorities.
